Fairfax, VA – The City of Fairfax Police recently uncovered a string of sophisticated fraud cases, leading to the arrest of Razie Brown, a 31-year-old resident of Covington, Georgia. According to the police, the incidents began to surface on June 27, 2023, when multiple victims reported being duped by an individual posing as a law enforcement officer.
In a detailed recount of the events, victims described being contacted by an unidentified suspect, later identified as Brown. He allegedly misled them into believing that they had active arrest warrants. Under this guise, Brown convinced the victims that they could avoid arrest by paying a bond, a classic scam tactic.
The victims, adhering to what they believed was a lawful request, met the suspect in person and handed over the money. The exact amount of money obtained fraudulently has not been disclosed.
The Criminal Investigations Division of Fairfax Police diligently investigated these incidents, which led to the identification of Brown as the primary suspect. In a coordinated effort, Brown was arrested on January 11, 2024, with the assistance of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia. Following his arrest, he was extradited to Virginia to face charges.
Brown now faces serious legal repercussions, including four counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretenses under Virginia Code 18.2-178 and four counts of Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer under Virginia Code 18.2-174. Currently, he is being held without bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
