The City of Fairfax Fire Department has promoted longtime firefighter and paramedic Joseph “Joe” Charley to lieutenant, marking a new chapter in a career that has spanned two decades with the department.
Charley joined the City of Fairfax Fire Department in 2006. Since then, he has worked as a firefighter/paramedic and apparatus driver/operator while also serving as an instructor, mentor and Acting Lieutenant.
Over the years, Charley has built experience across many of the department’s core responsibilities, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, training and special operations.
In his new role, Lt. Charley is assigned to the Operations Division at Fire Station 33 on A Shift.
The promotion moves Charley into a permanent leadership position after years of serving Fairfax residents and working alongside firefighters and medics throughout the department.
The City of Fairfax Fire Department announced the promotion while congratulating Charley on the career milestone and wishing him continued success in his new role.
