A 13-year-old bicyclist was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a large truck on Pickett Road in the City of Fairfax, according to police.
City of Fairfax Police said officers were called to the 3900 block of Pickett Road at 2:32 p.m. on Sept. 9 for a crash involving the juvenile and a large truck.
The child suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to preliminary information released by police, the truck was seen leaving a shopping center when it struck the 13-year-old, who was riding a bicycle.
Police said they located a vehicle of interest and its driver nearby. Authorities have not announced whether the driver has been charged or identified as a suspect.
The City of Fairfax Police Department is investigating the crash with assistance from the Fairfax County Police Departmentās Crash Reconstruction Unit. Investigators have not yet released additional details about what led to the collision.
The identity of the child is not being released. Virginia law prohibits law enforcement agencies from directly or indirectly identifying deceased juvenile victims.
The investigation remains active, and police said additional information will be released when appropriate.
