In a recent disturbance, Fairfax Police were summoned to the Safeway on Willard Way this past Thursday. At the heart of the incident was an assault involving an employee who, in the heat of a confrontation, was hit in the face with a shopping cart. The assailant, identified as Mr. Javonne Simms, reportedly launched the cart at the victim following a heated argument. Miraculously, the employee opted against seeking medical attention following the assault.
The situation escalated when Simms, in an attempt to evade accountability, fled the scene. However, the diligence of our local officers led to a swift identification and subsequent location of Simms in the vicinity. The arrest took a violent turn when Simms resisted, assaulting an officer in the process.
Javonne Simms, a 31-year-old with no fixed address, now faces serious charges including Malicious Wounding, Assault on Law Enforcement, and Obstruction of Justice. Following these charges, Simms was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without the possibility of bond. This incident underscores the unpredictability and dangers our law enforcement officers face and the community’s ongoing struggle with violence and safety.
