Fairfax Police Solve 2024 Attack with Forensic Evidence

Nearly a year after a woman was attacked and dragged into the woods behind the Fairfax Museum, police have made an arrest.

On May 15, Fairfax County authorities arrested 45-year-old Oscar Briones Amaya of Alexandria. He’s now facing serious charges

Abduction with Intent to Defile and Aggravated Sexual Battery — stemming from the July 3, 2024, incident in the City of Fairfax.

That day, just before 4:30 p.m., multiple witnesses called 911 after they saw a man carrying what looked like an unconscious woman into a wooded area near 10209 Main Street, right next to the Fairfax Museum. When someone stepped in, the man ran off.

The woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police said she didn’t know her attacker, and evidence later confirmed she had been assaulted.

City of Fairfax Police collected forensic evidence at the scene, which helped them eventually identify Briones Amaya. Detectives obtained warrants and made the arrest this week. He’s now being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The case is still active, and police have not released additional details on how the suspect was identified or whether further charges are pending.
