FAIRFAX, VA — What started as a shoplifting call quickly escalated into a violent encounter outside the CVS on Fairfax Boulevard Friday evening. City of Fairfax Police say that around 5:30 p.m. on May 2, they responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the 10090 Fairfax Blvd location.
When officers arrived, they learned the suspect had already assaulted an employee, damaged their personal property, and stolen merchandise. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Ariel Figueroa, was found nearby and taken into custody—but not without a fight.
During the arrest, police say Figueroa assaulted three officers and tried to grab one officer’s Taser. He was eventually subdued and taken to a local hospital for minor injuries before being transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
The police report notes that both the CVS employee and the officers had minor injuries. While the victim chose not to press assault charges, Figueroa now faces a long list of charges including robbery, attempted disarming of a law enforcement officer, three counts of assault on law enforcement, destruction of property, and obstruction of justice. He also gave officers a false name and was reportedly under the influence of alcohol.
Figueroa, who has no fixed address, is being held without bond.
This incident adds to growing concerns about safety at retail locations and the challenges officers face when suspects resist arrest.
