A 63-year-old man with no fixed address is facing charges after a disturbing pattern of indecent behavior on a public bus in the City of Fairfax.
City of Fairfax Police say Basim Dauwd Jami was identified as the suspect in a May 15 incident on a CUE bus. A passenger reported that Jami sat across the aisle, propositioned them for sex, and then exposed himself and performed a lewd act.
Detectives later determined that Jami may have been involved in similar incidents in recent weeks.
A warrant was issued on May 30 for Obscene Sexual Display under Virginia Code 18.2-387.1. Jami was already in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on unrelated charges at the time. He was served the new warrant and released on an unsecured bond.
Police have not indicated whether additional charges may be forthcoming based on the other alleged incidents.
Fairfax officials are urging riders who may have witnessed inappropriate conduct on public transit to report it immediately.
