Beginning Friday, Jan. 5, the city will replace the brick sidewalks on Route 123/Chain Bridge Road between Route 236/Main Street and North Street in Old Town Fairfax.
Work will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, weather permitting, and is expected to take up to four weeks.
Brick replacement work will begin on the northbound side of Chain Bridge Road at Main Street, and will progress north toward North Street. When that side is completed, work will begin on the opposite (southbound) side of Chain Bridge Road at North Street and progress south to Main Street.
Please note: the existing gas lights in this area will remain in place through spring, when their service is expected to be disconnected. After that time, the city will replace the bricks in that area.
During construction, the lane closest to the sidewalk will be closed, and pedestrians will be directed to University Drive sidewalks for safe travel through Old Town. Please note: pedestrians may not walk in the street adjacent to the sidewalk construction.
Expect delays on Chain Bridge Road during construction hours, and consider alternate routes.
